Synopsis

The chapter reveals that Prince Joseph, a powerful but reclusive figure, resides in the area. The narrative then shifts to a water dispute between two villages, Hadill and Denjouron, exacerbated by drought conditions. The Lord discovers that despite his orders to share water, the chief of Hadill is charging Denjouron for it. The lord intervenes harshly, chastising both villages for their conflict and ordering them to unite against the true enemy: the drought. He then invites himself to dinner at the chief of Hadill's home, signaling an end to the immediate crisis and hinting at further development.
