Synopsis

The chapter opens with the main character struggling with their terminal illness and needing more art supplies but refusing to burden their friend. They're then visited by their friend, who discusses their recent sleep habits and arranges for the protagonist to have new winter clothes fitted. It is revealed their friend sent the protagonist's art to the head of the Carlos family, a patron of the arts. Finally, the protagonist is introduced to the Duke and is then taken to get clothes suitable for painting.
