Synopsis

The chapter opens with a debate about the fort's vulnerability and a suggested tactical retreat, leading to a plan to ambush enemies at the valley entrance. A low-level 'irregular' named Dylan is introduced, revealed to have been pivotal in a previous raid, and despite his perceived weakness, is trusted by a high-ranking officer. Dylan, despite his level, feels compelled to protect both the fortress and what is referred to as 'paradise', agreeing to be a part of the dangerous battle ahead.
