Synopsis

The chapter opens with a gambling scam where the protagonist's associate is being cheated. Later, the protagonist faces the Krite Merchant Association who refuses to honor the original terms of a promissory note. They now demand triple the value of the city's property, potentially causing severe financial ruin. Despite the crisis, the protagonist opts to avoid using the city's vaults and seeks a way to counteract the Krite's unfair demands, and uncovers the cheating gambler's identity.
