Synopsis

The chapter begins with the protagonist, the head of the Jestard family, returning home after a journey. He finds his family's estate and reputation completely transformed, from impoverished and scorned to wealthy and respected, which conflicts with his memories of a struggling family. He and his attendant discuss the strangeness of the situation, including the abundance of money, the lavish lifestyle, and the surprisingly welcoming attitudes of the townspeople. They suspect time travel may be involved and plan to investigate the source of these changes once they've settled in.
