Synopsis

The protagonist's companions are shocked when he initially states he'd sacrifice the town to kill the antagonist, but he then reveals the infected population is already cured. The chapter then shifts to the antagonists, revealing the motivations of the main antagonist as revenge for her family's death from a previous illness, and her disturbing fascination with seeing the beauty in dying faces, which she claims is why she spread the new disease. The other antagonist is revealed to be the friend of her deceased husband, also seeking revenge for the debt incurred by the protagonist's father.
