Synopsis

The chapter opens with Khunz captured and threatened, forced to write a specific sentence under duress. He uses this opportunity to expose his captor's weaknesses and motivations. He then reveals a larger plan, involving making Kunz 'disappear' and using that as an alibi. The chapter concludes with Khunz leaving the Albret family, detailed in a letter to his father where he expresses his belief in his inability to lead the family and desires to live as himself, not as a member of the Albrets.
