Synopsis

The chapter opens with miners discussing their neglect compared to blacksmiths and then transitions to Roman beginning his work in the mines, much to the surprise of the other miners and also to the female character who accompanied him. This prompts a conversation between Roman and a character where he explains the historical importance of the mine and why he chose to work there. Finally, the chapter shows Flora departing Laurence for the capital and ends with the miners discussing Roman's work ethic and presence.
