Synopsis

The chapter opens with a character in dire straits, potentially injured and facing a large number of mastodons. They contemplate a risky, potentially destructive attack, but hesitate due to their condition and the possibility of failure. Later, a character discovers through a hint in a novel that mastodons are fiercely protective of their young. This knowledge leads to a plan to exploit this weakness by having a young mastodon and its caretaker lure the herd away.
