Synopsis

The chapter opens with a flashback of a recent traumatic event leaving the protagonist, a magic user named Ellen, injured and powerless. We then see her being cared for by a comrade, who is reminded of his own past military service and a kind sergeant, leading him to believe she deserves his compassion. Despite Ellen's self-deprecating talk, he decides to go out to buy medicine, and on the way, they learn about a public execution. He observes the callousness of the city and ultimately chooses to purchase some charm jewelry to cheer her up.
