This chapter establishes the world's power structure, including four major forces and the once-prestigious Melvinger magic family. Elric, the family's last hope, suffers from 'Blockage Disease,' making him unable to perform magic and the laughingstock of the magical community. Driven to desperation, Elric encounters a dragon, becoming its vessel, and gets entangled with a test of the 'Demon King' which he is unwillingly apart of, yet vows not to be devoured.
The chapter introduces Elric Melvinger, a disgraced magic family member unable to use magic due to a rare condition, who then encounters a dragon and becomes a vessel to something greater. He now resists the demonic king's test.
