Synopsis

A barbarian named Bjorn loses his weapon and initially uses it as an excuse to avoid night watch, which hints at his manipulative tendencies. He encounters a group of explorers and attempts to smooth-talk his way into a temporary alliance. While the explorers are initially wary, a deal is struck to share night watch duties, however, some of the barbarians have a different plan and are not to be trusted. The chapter ends with a reflection on the high death rate among barbarians and hints at a future betrayal.
