Synopsis

Professor Tang Hang begins his course by apologizing for challenging established scientific claims, and then poses a radical question: what if another species rapidly develops sentience and surpasses human civilization? He argues that humanity has taken its dominance for granted and that these new creatures are developing at an alarming rate. Tang Hang states his course will analyze these new beings in order to ultimately prove they will not evolve further and thus preserve humanity's position and survival. The chapter ends with students and the other species contemplating the implications of his claims, suggesting that the future of human civilization may be threatened.
