Synopsis

The chapter begins with a conversation highlighting the difference between going through the motions and wholehearted effort, directed at Irene. This leads to a public challenge regarding Irene's swordsmanship and a reveal of his poor noble etiquette at a social gathering. The other nobles mock Irene's lack of knowledge and the consequences of his perceived laziness which causes him to become overwhelmed and leave in shame, reflecting on his father's suffering.
