Synopsis

Khan approaches the protagonist, a rising adventurer, not for their combat prowess but for their growing fame within the Guild. Khan reveals evidence of Malice, a dangerous force, sacrificing slum dwellers by the hundreds, even potentially thousands, and needs the protagonist to serve as living proof for the hard-headed Guild. While Khan believes the protagonist is pursuing fame, the protagonist sees an opportunity to manipulate the situation to their own advantage. The chapter also gives context to the power dynamics within the slums and the emergence of Malice, creating a dangerous landscape.
