Synopsis

The chapter begins with the distribution of Gula, a new crop, with rules forbidding trade outside of a set system and fines for violations. Ian and his group interrogate one of the kidnappers from Merelof, confirming their origin. Ian and his group send a letter to Merelof detailing the ambush. A letter from the border reaches Gale regarding Gula's success and a recommendation for Ian, along with news of Molin's betrayal and failed assassination. This leads to Gale considering Ian's potential appointment.
