Synopsis

The chapter opens with Deon Hart encountering monsters and being ambushed, while simultaneously, others plot to kill him during an upcoming hunting competition. The chapter also features discussions of Deon’s noble but collateral lineage, his recent appointment, and the dissatisfaction of others, who see him as an illegitimate patriarch. A flashback reveals a past incident involving his brother going to war which further reveals Deon's character. The plotters specifically plan to lure Deon with monster tracks into the ambush and see the event as a good opportunity for assassination.
