Synopsis

The chapter begins with Arangis, referred to as the 'Shadow King', lamenting his inability to quell the corruption within the empire despite his power. He acknowledges Pendragon's unique ability to assimilate rather than clash with power. Pendragon is then appointed as the governor of Leus and entrusted with the mission to subdue the Arangis house, suggesting a shift in power and a plan to counter Arangis' control. Pendragon is granted significant financial power in the form of circulating Pendragon gold coins, but the chapter ends with a question of whether the empire truly trusts him.
