Synopsis

The chapter opens with a recap of Anise's pilgrimage and Senya's retirement, linking it to the protagonist's investigation about Anise's disappearance. Eugene then meets the Emir of Kajitan, who confronts him about his actions but claims his men were protecting him from desert mages and a potential conflict between Nahama and Kiel. The confrontation is resolved with a financial settlement and a promise to have one of the Emir's subordinates clean toilets. Finally, a drunken priest, who talks about Vermouth as a miracle from God, leads to a discussion about the world’s problems.
