The chapter introduces Namgoong Bi-Ah, who despite being told they aren't headed to Sichuan, forces herself into the group's journey and annoys them with her persistence. The main character's party is slowed by her antics, and the main character's companions suspect she is a nuisance but she proves she is from the Namgoong Clan by demonstrating their sword techniques. They eventually discover that she has terrible sense of direction and was lost on her way to Sichuan.
The group is joined by a persistent and directionally-challenged Namgoong clan member who insists on accompanying them, despite their attempts to deter her. Their journey is further slowed as they try to avoid her.
