Synopsis

The chapter introduces Luka, a young Imperial Guard trainee and new platoon leader, who decides to assert his authority by aggressively confronting his subordinate, Sergeant Codrack. This is in contrast to the standard choice of delegating tasks to his experienced aide. Simultaneously, Ilay's friends recognize his reckless determination to save Lilian Ramoness, who is considered a traitor, and fear for his life. They know his actions are very dangerous as he'd likely be executed if caught, and one hopes Lilian will die before Ilay tries to save her.
